



Want to put something back into your community, learn new skills or just do something different and meet new people? If so, Age Concern Newham offers a range of services to older people in our community and you can become part of our volunteer team.
There are many ways you can help older people in our community, one of which may suit you!
Voice & Choice
This project aims to enable, empower and involve older people within the diverse communities of Newham to challenge decision-making and to campaign at a local level on issues of concern to older people. As a volunteer you will support the activities of older people, supporting them in their campaigning activities from telephoning, preparing letters and leaflets, lobbying appropriate persons, working with the media
Advocacy
This project supports people who want to exercise their rights, access services and have a say in the decisions made in and bout their lives. Duties include helping with understanding information, reading and writing letters, attending meetings and accessing local services and groups to support older people in securing their rights and access to services
Well at Home Befriending/Mentoring
A service for older people who are returning home after a stay in hospital or who are socially isolated. Duties may include accompanied shopping, supporting doing day-to-day things, introducing to local clubs and activities as well as emotional support and chatting over a cup of tea - all of which can be so important in getting confidently re-established at home and in promoting independent living
Information & Advice
Working at our offices, there are a range of opportunities which include reception duties and providing information on a range of topics relevant to older people in Newham
Office Administration
Various duties in the office, help is always welcome
Silver Surfers
We are currently looking for an IT trainer to lead and facilitate teaching older people basic computer skills, including email, internet and word processing for this project
While these are our some of our main service areas, there are sometimes other opportunities to help with short-term projects or by giving occasional spare time that you may have to volunteer.
