Fit as a fiddle

Fit as a Fiddle

What is the fit as a fiddle project?

It isn't always easy to start a new physical activitiy on your own, and it isn't always easy to choose healthy eating options.  That's why in East London we are running a project called fit as a fiddle.

The project will link people together.  Those who regularly take part in physical activities will introduce others, helping them get started.

Could you be an activity buddy?

As an activity buddy you would be matched with somebody of a similar age who wants to get involved in local activities but doesn't want to go by themselves.

Getting together weekly you would go to an activity together.  You would support your buddy to get into a healthy and active lifestyle and have fun together at the same time!  It may be as simple as a regular walk around the park or swim at the local pool.

Activity Buddies are short term volunteers; you would be linked with the other person for around 6 months.

"Being an activity buddy was a good laugh, I thoroughly enjoyed it all" Rose, Activity Buddy 2006.

Or would you like support from an activity buddy?

Sometimes it is hard to start a new physical activity on your own.  If you're aged over 50 we can link you wih an activity buddy - someone of a similar age who can help get you started and encourage you on your way.

Together you could try things like badminton, swimming, walking and exercise sessions.

"I feel 100% for confident!" A quote from Lucy, who was paired with an activity buddy in 2006.

Could you spread the word?

Word of mouth is the best advert for anything!  Maybe you have a nieghbour or a friend who is keen to join a physical activity - if they want someont to go with let us know.

Or perhaps you know someone who is active and encouraging - maybe they would like to be an activity buddy!

Could you advise us on this project?

We are keen to involve people in the planning of this project.  Let us know if you would like to join a local group that guides our work.
