Age Concern Newham Trustees

The Age Concern Newham Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of Age Concern Newham and overseeing our operations. The members of the Board have legal responsibilities and liabilities and must ensure the charity is well-run, financially sound, and that our charitable objectives are always at the forefront of the decisions they make. The Trustees are also Directors in Company law. The Board meets every two months.

 The current board

Each member of the Board is elected by Age Concern Newham members and serves for a three-year period. In addition the board can co-opt a limited number of individuals who have skills useful to the organisation.The Trustees delegate the day-to-day management of the charity to the Chief Executive and her team.  The current members of the board are:

Pat Dedman - Chair
After many years professional association with Age Concern Newham, Pat became a Trustee in 2002 when she retired as Head of Older People’s Services with Newham Primary Care Trust.  She became Chair in 2008 having previously served two years as Deputy Chair. Pat is an Associate non-executive Director of North-East London Mental Health Trust and Vice-Chair of the Trustees of Redbridge Crossroads.

Sally Banks (Lady Stratford) - Deputy Chair
Sally became a freelance consultant in 2006 following a career in professional social work; prior to that she was senior team manager with the Hospital Social Work Team in Newham.  Sally joined the Board of Age Concern Newham in 2007.  She has considerable experience as a trustee and has served as a school governor.  She also serves on the Board of Pioneer Theatres, is a trustee of Sally Banks Seal Campaign and Patron of Captive Animals Protection Society.

David Idiabana
David is currently the Manager of Newham African Caribbean Resource Centre having previously been Director of the Pepperpot Club in North Kensington.  He was elected to Age Concern Newham’s Board of Trustees in 2005.  David is active in the local voluntary sector and has a number of other trusteeships including Race Equality in Newham and the Black and Ethnic Minority Community Care Forum, which he Chairs.

Peter Rootsey - Treasurer
Peter has been connected with Age Concern Newham for over 20 years and has previously served terms as Chair and Deputy Chair.  Before taking early retirement, Peter was a Senior Housing Manager with Newham Council.  He is also a Director of Age Concern Newham Trading Company Ltd

Tony Walsh
Tony joined the Board in October 2006.  He was recently employed as a logistics consultant by Morgan Stanley responsible for operations throughout Europe.  Tony has wide ranging business and commercial experience and is a Companion of the Institute of Sales.

Julie Aduwa
Julie joined the Board in September 2008.  She is a Senior Contract Review Officer in adult services with Barking & Dagenham Council. Her previous experience of older people’s issues includes work for Age Concerns in SE and NE London.  She is an experienced Trustee, a current member of Newham Community & Police Forum and serves as a Justice of the Peace.
